Cultural Orientation to the South West
In partnership with South West Aboriginal Medical Service SWAMS the UDRH SW provides Cultural Orientation for all UDRH SW students.
This orientation training gives you a chance to learn about and reflect on the significance of this country to the Wardandi people and other Noongar groups in the SW.
You will learn about Aboriginal culture and protocols related particularly to the South West from local Aboriginal cultural experts, and how these protocols can inform clinical practice. You will have the opportunity to examine your own cultural knowledges and attitudes and how these may affect communication and relationships with Aboriginal clients and families.
You will learn to apply an Aboriginal model of health and principles of culturally secure practice to your clinical work. You will also gain an understanding of the role Aboriginal Medical Services play in working with Aboriginal families.
