Frequently asked questions
We’ve gathered together some of our most frequently asked questions with corresponding answers.
What happens if I can’t attend the required workshops and tutorials as I’m rostered on a shift?
We understand that it’s not possible to attend all tutorials and orientations. We ask that you do what you can to attend, as they are invaluable opportunities. Please ask your supervisor to inform us if you can’t attend.
I’m an International Student, can I register for the UDRH SW Program?
Absolutely! While you aren’t eligible for accommodation or placement support, we encourage you to attend the South West Orientation and Cultural Orientation sessions with our lecturers.
For ECU Campus Living Village, is this free accommodation or is payment required?
It is free! It is located on the ECU campus right next to Bunbury Hospitals! For all ECU Campus Living Village questions, please contact the village directly here, and tell them you are with the UDRH SW program.
Is it possible to get put in a female only apartment? Are we allowed visitors at the ECU campus? What is the size of the bed to know what size sheets/bedding to bring.
For all ECU Campus Living Village questions, please contact the village directly here, and tell them you are with the UDRH SW program.
Key collection/admin open hours?
For all ECU Campus Living Village questions, please contact the village directly here, and tell them you are with the UDRH SW program.
Will we get a program as to if we need to attend ECU on certain days and will our placement locations be aware of the commitments to ECU?
Yes, if your placement is longer than three weeks, we expect you to attend the cultural orientation day and South West orientation ½ day, and tutorials on Wednesday afternoon every other week. We do let your supervisor know of these dates and times. We understand students may not be able to attend all tutorials due to placement commitments.
My friend and I would like to share accommodation together, will the reimbursement just be split between the 2 of us?
What a great idea! Please make sure both names are on the invoice and inform UDRH SW of the split claim when submitting their Bursary Claim form to be processed.
Is there somewhere I can stay closer to Vasse where my placement is?
For those requiring accommodation in other towns, please contact us to discuss options. We are working hard to secure student accommodation throughout the region. We can contribute to the nightly accommodation rate. It may fully cover your stay, or greatly reduce any out-of-pocket.
I am wondering if we don't have access to cars, are there any available bus services around?
Do I pay for my own accommodation?
Please refer to the Financial Support and Accommodation page.
I am an ECU student who attends ECU Bunbury and lives in the South West. My placement is located 120kms (return) from home. Am I eligible for the program?
Yes, you are able to register for the UDRH SW program. Students who live in the SW are eligible for a Clinical Support Payment to minimise out-of-pocket expenses. Students who live in the South West are not eligible for accommodation support; however, a daily bursary is offered and you may choose to use this to subsidise accommodation closer to your placement.
Student finds own accommodation (not approved), pays in full themselves. Will UDRH SW still pay for the accommodation in this case or do that forfeit the reimbursement?
Yes. The Student must be registered by their University Placement Coordinator for the UDRH SW program and then complete a Student Registration to be eligible for support. Students are encouraged to be familiar with the terms and conditions to ensure that their placement location meets the criteria.
For the accommodation financial aid, do we have to book through certain places to be able to access this grant or we are able to claim it no matter where we are staying?
Students can stay in accommodation of their choice that is most suitable for their placement and circumstances. Please refer to the Financial Support and Accommodation page.
I already sent you the form, why do I need to do another one?
Participating in the UDRH SW program is a three-step process:
- Expression of Interest to your University Placement Coordinator
- You’ll then receive an email with directions to the Student Placement Registration
- You will also receive the Student Clinical Placement Support Claim and/or Accommodation Bursary Claim.
I’ve already commenced my clinical placement and wonder if I can still register for UDRH SW support?
We strongly encourage you to register through your university at the time of placement planning. Delays in student registration are at the student’s risk as UDRH SW is in great demand and does have a capacity limit.
Does the SW Orientation count to my Placement hours?
Please check with UDRH SW as this may be dependent on your health discipline.
Is the UDRH SW, ECU Village Pet Friendly?
For all ECU Campus Living Village questions, please contact the village directly here, and tell them you are with the UDRH SW program.
