Teaching on the Run Success in Bunbury

Lecturing team Fiona Hildebrand and Abigail Lewis from the University Department of Rural Health South West (UDRHSW) successfully facilitated the Teaching on the Run (TOTR) program at the Edith Cowan University South West campus in February.

TOTR is a program for nursing, midwifery and allied health professionals who are keen to learn skills to support students for clinical placements or junior colleagues in the workplace.

A variety of health professionals attended the workshop in Bunbury on the 13th and 14th of February, keen to learn how to better facilitate student health placements. The attendees represented a wide range of professional areas, including:

  • Optometry
  • Community Health Nursing
  • Registered Nursing
  • Midwifery
  • Physiotherapy

Participants were able to develop a learning plan, practice supervisory skills, role play difficult conversations, practice demonstrating skills and teaching knowledge and consider how to support underperforming students.
