Ari Aldus (Physiotherapist and Clinical Lecturer), Karyn Hetherington (Nursing and Midwifery Discipline Advisor), and Emily Jackson (Speech Therapy Discipline Advisor) from the UDRH SW team attended Australind Senior High School’s Careers Day on 20 June 2025. They engaged Year 10, 11, and 12 students in exploring pathways into health careers.

The Careers Day gave students a taste of life after high school, with guidance on future study options from universities including ECU, Murdoch, and UWA.

The UDRH SW team offered a range of interactive activities such as taking blood pressure, strapping hands and fingers, trialing thickened fluids as part of a swallowing evaluation and testing nerve responses. These hands-on experiences gave budding health professionals a real glimpse into everyday tasks performed by health practitioners. Students enjoyed lively conversations with the team, who shared practical knowledge and insights from their own careers working in healthcare across the South West.

By attending these high school events, UDRH SW connects with students at a crucial time when they are considering their future careers in health. Through practical activities and real-life insights, UDRH SW helps bridge the gap between secondary school and the health workforce, supporting its mission to grow and strengthen the South West’s future health professionals.
