South West Aboriginal Research Workshop

In September, UDRH SW co-hosted the first South West Aboriginal Research Workshop at the ECU South West campus.

This brought together staff from the South West Aboriginal Medical Service, Edith Cowan University, University of WA, Kids Research Institute and Aboriginal community members interested in promoting meaningful Aboriginal health research in the South West and progressing research capacity building in the region.

Enthusiasm levels were high and discussion was rich as participants covered a range of topics including current research being undertaken, areas requiring future research, and ways to support early career researchers or those interested in starting out in research. Support could include formal research training, assistance in gaining experience in local data collection projects, evaluations, and/or developing presentation skills to report on clinical programs at conferences.

This will be the first of many such workshops planned.
