Professor Sabina Knight visits the South West

The University Department of Rural Health South West (UDRH SW) was very pleased to host a visit in September from Professor Sabina Knight, Director of the James Cook University Central QLD Centre for Rural and Remote Health in Emerald.

Professor Knight generously shared her extensive rural and remote experiences with UDRH SW staff, including establishing both the Mt Isa base and now, the centre in Emerald. Her enthusiasm for facilitating health careers across the spectrum was inspiring, with a truly multidisciplinary and interprofessional focus clear.

As a new UDRH, our staff were thrilled to have the opportunity to hear the range of projects, activities and initiatives Professor Knight has undertaken in the rural health sector, particularly focused on health student placements and community engagement.

Sabina is well recognised nationally. Her numerous contributions have been acknowledged through an Order of Australia, National Rural Health Leadership award and the CRANA Aurora Award for outstanding leadership in remote health. She is a Fellow of the Rural Leadership Australia, Fellow of CRANA plus, and of the Australian College of Nursing, Graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) a director of the Townsville and NW Queensland Regional Development Authority and a Director with the Western Queensland PHN.

It was a privilege to have her visit.
